Improvement
6. Top-Spin Serve
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:
1. Stance with ball
2. Tosses ball up
3. Her hit consists of flicking the ball
What to Change: One major improvement is that she should bend her knees a little bit before tossing the ball up. Another improvement is to correct her swing. Her swing consists of holding her hand straight up and then flicking her hand in contact with the ball in the air. She should have more of a swing back then forward. Her hand should carry over the ball in order to get more of a top spin. She should also use her whole body, including her hips when hitting.
Cue: Bend knees
Hand over ball
Use whole body, not just wrists for power
Top spin serve
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristics: Player does a nice job getting the spin but can get more with hitting the ball on the right spot on the ball.
What to change: Hit the spot at the right time to get more spin out of the ball.
Cue: Hitting the ball in the right spot.
top spin serve
Stage:Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:Server had an ok stance but could have turned her left side of her body more towards the net for greater power. She hits the ball and has an ok top spin. She also follows threw which is essencial.
What to Change:She needs to hit more of the top of the ball and snap her wrist for greater spin for the ball to drop.
Cue:Making contact with the ball in the right spot for more spin
PES 294, Skill Analysis
Stage: Beginner
Stage Characteristics: The stance was incorrect as the left side of body should have been toward net to increase the power of her hit. The ball was tossed into the air to an ok height. It could have been thrown a bit higher. The server hit the ball with good contact and in the proper place. There was a good follow through. She did not carry her hand over the top of the ball enough to get a really good top spin and so the ball did not drop into the other court as well as quick as it could have. If the other student had not caught the ball it looks as if it would have been out of bounds.
What to Change: The server's stance should be with left side of body toward the net. Her striking arm needed to be cocked back farther. She needs to hit the ball then carry her hand over the top of the ball to increase the top spin.
Cue: "Ready position, left side forward. Bow and arrow arms. Continue hand over ball for top spin."
