Stage: Intermediate

Stage: Intermediate (both)

Stage Characteristics: Both players exhibit intermediate stage characteristics: 1) toss ball, weakly 2) 3-4 steps taken in approach but aren’t very powerful 3) Contact ball with heel of hand.

What to change: I think they can best improve by working on their approach and jump. Steps need to be more forceful, giving jump more power and therefore height. This would- contacting the ball higher would result in a steeper angle.

Cue: More forceful steps.

Jump Serve

Stage: intermediate

Stage characteristics: The toss was low, there was no real approach and did not keep there guide arm up.

What to change: I would practice the toss and approach

Cue: Keep guide arm up

Volleyball Daniel Smith 3410

Volleyball
Daniel Smith
3410 Jump serve
Stage: Intermediate
Stage characteristics: The first player tossed the ball and stepped to meet it, the second player tossed the ball too low and jumped to meet it, neither follow through.
What to change: Both need more momentum and a greater push, knees slightly more bent just before the jump, the ball should be tossed slightly higher to force the players to meet the height,
Cue: Higher toss, higher jump

Jump Serve

Stage: Intermediate

Stage Characteristics: Both players need to really work on there approach to the ball and get more height in there jumps.

What to change: Approach to the ball and get more height in there jump to get the ball up and over the net.

Cue: Explode up in their jump.

PES 294, Skill Analysis

Stage: Beginner

Stage Characteristics: The first student's serve wasn't even a jump serve, more of a walking and hopping serve. The second student had a good approach and jump. The second student did not have elbow back and ready to hit the ball.

What to Change: The point of a jump serve is to contact the ball at a higher point to get a steeper angle on the serve. The first student needs to get a more vertical jump. The second needs to work on his arm position.

Cue: First server: "Jump High". Second server: "Bow and Arrow arms"

Improvement

4. Jump Serve
Stage: Beginner/Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:
First Hitter:
1. Weak approach to toss
2. Tosses the ball up
3. Casually hits the ball
Second Hitter:
1. Two step approach
2. Tosses ball up
3. Hits ball using only power from arm
What to Change: Both players need to work on their approach. They should also jump higher and give themselves a better toss on their serve. They should bend their knees, lean back then forward in order to get better momentum and power on their serve.
Cue: Work on approach
Jump higher
Take strong steps

jump serve

Stage:Intermediate

Stage Characteristics:Both players have a general idea of how to jump serve. There approach is uncordinated and dont get high enough off the ground on there jump.

What to Change:Need to have a stronger approach and work on there footwork. Also jump higher off the ground and towards the net for greater momentum.

Cue:Work on your approach and jumping higher off the ground.

Jump Serve

Stage: Intermediate

Stage Characteristic: The ideas are there about how a jump serve should look but the execution is not. Players need to really work on footwork.

What to Change: A jump serve approach is alot like a spike approach. Players need to remember to use proper footwork to maximize power and strength of serve.

Cue: proper footwork - 3 step approach and up to ball

Jump Serve PES 294

Stage: Beginner/Intermediate.

Stage Characteristics: Both players in this clip had the general idea of the jump serve but have yet to master it. The steps leading up to the vertical jump were somewhat sloppy and uncoordinated, which leads to a lack of power as well as accuracy.

What to Change: Generally the approach for the jump serve should be consistant with the spike. The first player especially should work on coordinating his steps before takeoff. The player should work on getting higher in his takeoff as well in order to produce more power.

Cue: Three strong steps and vertical leap.
