Basics
Recommended Skill Analysis Task
Stage: Identify the stage of the skill that is exhibited (e.g. beginner, intermediate, expert).
Stage Characteristics: Describe 2-3 features of the movement on the video that is characteristic of the stage identified.
What to Change: Identify and describe the most important aspect of the skill that will need to be changed for the subject to improve.
Cue: Write the single most important verbal instructional cue to help the performer improve.
Call for Contribution
Comments on individual video clips are encouraged, especially in the form of analysis of the subjects' technique.
Video contributions to this project are also welcomed. Use the contact form to request details on video uploads and participant consent forms.
Purpose
This project has the following primary purposes: (a) to provide video of subjects performing sport skills at varying levels of expertise as a medium for teachers, coaches, and students to practice movement analysis, (b) to provide video demonstration models of sport skills and games for learners, teachers, and coaches, and (c) present a platform for the professional community to contribute video and dialog to more thoroughly accomplish the aforementioned purposes. Stage: Intermediate Stage
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristic: Players jump to block, even though they don’t coordinate their jumps, both extend their arms, they effectively block and rebound ball into opponents’ court.
What to change: Need to close up their block by eliminating some of the space between them.
Cue: Close block.
Two Blockers
Stage: Intermediate
Stage characteristics: The players need to close together, the ball would get between them if they do not. THey need to estend their arms over the net
What to change: Definitely need to close the block. This will be ineffective
Cue: Close the block
Stage:
Stage: Intermediate
Characteristics:
These athletes show how to use twice the arms above the net to more effectively block a spike. They each get fairly high above the net and have both arms extended up and slightly forward to block the ball back down onto the opponents' side of the court.
What to change:
The first group needs to make sure their arms are a little more vertical to prevent hitting the top of the net as they coome down from their jump.
Cue: Jump and make sure you get those arms up.
Block
Stage: Intermediate.
Stage Characteristics: Players have the right idea but need to jump at the same time to get that wall affect on the top of the net. Also looks like they need to be closer together.
What to change: Players need to jump at the same time, timing the ball just right so they get a good block.
Cue: Jump at the same time.
Improvement
2. Two Blockers
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:
1. Both jumped to block
2. Jumped at different times so wall was not created
3. Arms in air with fingers spread
What to Change: Both groups should work on angling their hands. They should also jump at the same time and have hands stiff with fingers. They should also practice not going too far into the net. There was a little too much contact with the net.
Cue: Jump together
Hands stiff with fingers
Don’t go too far into net
Two blockers
Stage:beginner
Stage Characteristics:Both players have a good idea of how to block the ball. The both jump at different times making it hard to create a wall. They also hit the top of the net and the bottom of the net resulting in a point for the other team.
What to Change:Jump in unison and creat a solid wall so the ball cant get threw. Also work on avoiding contact with the net.
Cue:Work as a team by jumping at the same time creating a better wall.

Two Blockers
Stage: Beginner/Intermediate
Stage Characteristics: Blockers knew the general idea of how the block should be carried out but lacked in sound skill execution. They jumped at net with both hands up but were not together in their approach. Also, hands needed to be stronger when touching the ball.
What to Change: Blockers need to jump in unison to the top of the net. They need to make a wall with their hands with stiff fingers and strong wrists.
Cue: stiff hands, jump together
PES 294, Skill Analysis
Stage: Intermediate/Expert
Stage Characteristics: Both sets of blockers timed their jump with the one spiking the ball. They all sealed the net with their bodies. They all had their arms in the air with fingers spread. The first group did a good job of angling their hands into their opponent's court and reaching over the net. The second group did not angle or reach over as well.
What to Change: The second group should work on angling their hands into the opponents court and being in the proper position to block the ball with force. They also should end with their hands over the net.
Cue: For the second group: "Block with force, Reach over"

Two Blockers PES 294
Stage:Intermediate/Expert.
Stage Charactersitcs: Both demonstrations were fairly sound. In general both sets performed the skill in an above satisfactory manner. Both sets were coordinated and got good vertical height.
What to Change: The first set looked to have a bit too much contact with the net.
Cue: One of the best ways to execute this skill is to have coordination, more coordination will equal more success. A cue could be something such as coordinate the attack or arms up and out.
