Smashes
Stage: Advanced
Stage Characteristics: The players bring the racket to the shuttle at a high point, rotate the shoulders and trunk, flick the wrist, and place the shuttle downward.
What to Change: These are great examples of a correct smash: good rotation, the wrist is flicked, and the shuttle goes downward quickly on the opponent’s side of the court.
Cue: Flick the wrist, hit down (continue these)
PES 394: Analysis of Smash
Stage: Advanced Intermediate.
Stage Characteristics: The male player uses his height to his advantage, elevates his arm nicely, does a quick flick of the wrist and follows through forcefully with his racket to quickly smash down the birdie on his opponent. The female player also raises her racket arm and smashes quickly and smoothly. The female participant, in contrast to the male, smashes the birdie to the opponents opposite racket side down low, which is a good location that would force him to return it with an underhand backhand. This sets herself up nicely incase the opponent has a shot at returning the birdie.
What to Change: The male server could attempt to locate the shot better, although his fundamentals were executed properly at a near advanced level. The female server could attempt to follow through further with her swing and flick the wrist quicker for a faster smash.
Cue's: Direct the racket for better location of the smash. Follow through and flick wrist.
