1. Video Analysis “Discus Full Throw”
Stage: Intermediate/expert
Stage Characteristics: Her form looks very good. Her spin is initiated by her legs; she complete the correct amount of turns; and the throw moves from the hip to the shoulder on the release.
What to Change: Looked very good; continue to work on strength in the throw.
Cue: Plant and throw
Improvement
1. Discuss Full Throw
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:
1. Back to area in throwing field
2. Holds discuss with one hand and turns in full circle
3. Releases discuss after turn with one hand
What to Change: One major thing the thrower can change is to bend her knees throughout the throw (even in beginning stance). This will allow her to get power from her whole body, not just arms. Prior to the release of the discuss, she does not have to keep her foot behind her body. Dragging her foot more forward will give her more power. She also needs to work on bringing her whole body from a crouched position to a rising position after she turns in the circle. This will allow her to strengthen and use muscle power from the whole body.
Cue: Use whole body, not just arms
Drag not planted foot forward upon release
Bend your knees
