Improvement
6. Relay Handoff
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:
1. Runner approaches partner at good speed
2. Partner puts hand out from his body correctly
3. Baton is passed and partner takes off
What to Change: One thing I would suggest is for both partners to practice the exchange of the baton. The first runner has a decent speed but a smoother and quicker transfer could help his partner enhance his take off skill. The first runner could communicate clearer by saying “back” when he wants his partner to put his hand back in order to exchange the baton. They could also work on timing with steps and when the other guy should take off so that he is almost to full speed when the baton is exchanged.
Cue: Run faster
Time transfer
Smoother and quicker baton exchange
Relay Exchange
Stage: Intermediate
Characteristic: Running form looks good for both runners. Retriever's hand was out from his body correctly with adequate take-off speed in relation to the runner handing the baton off.
Change: Retriever's take-off speed can be slightly faster for a smoother hand-off
Coaching Cue: Run faster.
