Stage: Beginner/Intermediate
Stage Characteristics: Begins his run with the cross over, which should be the last 5 or 6 steps.
What to Change: Give more running time, before the cross over, bring the javelin back and rotate the shoulders to create torque.
Cue: Timing; when to begin the crossover
Improvement
2. Javelin Throw
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:
1. Javelin in one hand
2. Good pace going into throw
3. Lean back and release of javelin
What to Change: The major improvement is for him to work on his footwork. This will give him balance and more strength when he is comfortable with a set amount of steps going into the throw. Another improvement is for him not to land on his hands. He is leaning too far forward after releasing the javelin. Another improvement would be for him to bring the javelin back while leaning back with his upper body, and then bring the javelin forward along with his upper body prior to release. He should use his whole body, not just arms for throwing.
Cue: Use whole body to throw
Don’t lean too far forward
Keep a steady balance during throw
Stage:
Stage: Intermediate
Characteristics: Had a good approach and good speed
Change: Do not need to fall forward on hands. Draw the javelin back further.
Cue: Stay on feet
