Stage: Intermediate (low)
Stage: Intermediate (low)
Stage Characteristics: Forehead lined up with ball, faces proper direction, ball contacted by inner surface of thumb and fingers,
Weight transfer between feet noted
What to change: Has general idea, needs to fine tune. Could improve by correcting small mistakes in things such as arm position (upper arms should be more horizontal) so that he can work on forming “window” with hands
Cue: Window

Improvement
7. Set
Stage: Beginner/Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:
1. Uses fingers to set
2. Pushes ball up into air vertically
3. Uses knees
What to Change: One major improvement is for the guy to bend his knees more to get under the ball. When setting, he should use the “reindeer, superman” action with his arms. Thus, his elbows need to be bent more with his fingers spread and his hands by his forehead. He should then push the ball up using his fingers and extending his arms straight up. Another major improvement is for the guy to work on control of the ball. He needs to practice using his fingers to aim.
Cue: Reindeer, superman
Bend knees
Get under the ball
Stage:
Stage: Beginner/Intermediate
Characteristics:
He shows how to set a volleyball by using the fingers and thumbs pushing up and out to spring the ball vertically. Also important to note is how he used his knees to get in the best position possible for the set.
What to change:
The set often doesn't need to be so hard and sudden. Instead, make it a little more fluid and gentle while keeping the intensity and power.
Cue:
Set it nice and gentle so there is plenty of control.
