Analysis
This is not the proper way to do a lay in for a couple reasons. These are the motions that you would go through when performing a lay-in, however the mechanics are wrong. When you are performing a lay-in you don't want to take small baby steps when approaching the basket. When your breaking down your speed and dribble, you want to take as less steps as you can, and then dribble as less as you can and make them hard and accurate dribbles.
The next thing that was wrong with this movement were the hands when layin in the ball. When you are making a left side lay-in you want to jump off your right foot and lay the ball in with your left hand. In this video the girl layed the ball in with both hands, which is caused by bad mechanics and lack of experience and practice.
Stage: Beginner Stage
Stage: Beginner
Stage characteristics: Subject dribbles with head down, jumps off of correct foot, but flips the ball up rather then lay in.
What to change: Start in closer to the basket so she can work on foot work, and laying the ball up with left hand. Keep head up looking at basket, and going up strong towards basket.
Cue: Imagine that left elbow and left knee are attached by an imaginary string. As left hand goes up, the string pulls up the left knee, like a puppet.
