Elizabeth Wood PES 294
Stage: Beginner
Stage Characteristics: Beginning of the throw is initiated with the arms, and not the lower body. The footwork is incorrect, and on the landing he is outside the circle.
What to Change: Focus on initiating the throw with the lower body to generate more strength.
Cue: Focus on lower body; footwork
Discus
Stage: Beginner
Stage Characteristics: His footwork is okay. It looks like he is still trying to get the steps right because he is not going full speed.
What to change: He needs to get into an athletic position before he starts his throw. If he has his knees bent and explodes through the throw he should get more distance on his throw.
Cue: Keep your knees bent.
Discus Throw
Stage: Beginner
Stage Characteristic: Needs to stay low and keep balance centered. Stay in circle
What to change: Form needs to be more fluid. Work on staying balanced in motion.
Cue: "Keep balance"
Stage: Beginner Stage
Stage: Beginner
Stage Characteristics: This demonstrater shows us the generic method for crossing the ring and building up momentum to transfer to the discus.
What to Change: (besides NOT scratching)
1. Needs to glide across ring on the balls of the feet.
2. Right arm should not catch up with the right foot. It should be at least 30 to 45 degrees behind in rotation.
Cue: Get feet moving and let the arm trail behind.
Discus Throw
Stage: Intermediate.
Stage Characteristics: Throwers weight is everywhere and is not even in a athletic position to get best throw he can get.
What to Change: Get into a athletic position and explode through the throw and dont go outside the circle.
Cue: Get into an athletic position.
Stage: Intermediate Stage
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristics: Footwork was decent, but moved diagonally instead of straight. This looked like the thrower was going slowly to work on form.
What to change: Work on more fluid footwork and putting more power into the throw.
Cue: Power.
Disc
Stage: Beginner
Stage Characteristic: The athlete had his head down and his arm below his waist throughout the execution of the throw. He also stepped out of the ring.
Change: The first thing I would have the athlete adress is his positioning within the ring and be aware of it. If you scratch it doesn't matter how good the throw and form was.
Cue: Awareness
discus throw
Stage: Intermediate
Stage Characteristics:Needs to be in a more athletic positon and explode into the throw. Also dont exit the circle after you release.
What to Change:Be more explosive in your throw for greater distance and dont scratch
Cue:Work on being explosive
Discus Throw PES 294
Stage: Beginner/Intermediate
Stage Characteristics: He could have spread his legs wider than shoulder width apart. His upper body did not seem relaxed enough. I also think he could have exploded more.
What to change: Wider stance, relax upper body, the throwing arm should trail behind with the discus at shoulder hight.
Cue: Explode
Discus Throw-PES294
Stage:Beginner/Intermediate.
Stage Characteristics: Athlete's footwork did not allow for maximum power. Also the throwing arm and discus were below the waist and head was down most of the time.
What to change: Getting athlete's power increased by more in synch footwork and elevating the throwing arm above the waist.
Cue: Reminding the athlete to keep his "arm and head high".
